Load handling information should accompany a forklift enquiry when the load is uneven, long, fragile or supported by a special attachment. Weight alone does not describe the complete handling condition.
Load Limit and Load Centre
CCOHS advises users not to exceed the truck load limit, to position the load according to the recommended load centre and to use the proper fixture for special loads. The source also explains that the load limit decreases as the load centre is raised.
Stable Pallets and Fork Entry
Describe pallet dimensions, load distribution, support condition and any wrapping or surface sensitivity. CCOHS recommends stable, secured and evenly distributed pallet loads, suitable fork insertion and removal of damaged pallets from service.
Attachment Review
Record the proposed attachment and request documentation for the complete truck and attachment combination. Do not add counterweight or copy another model capacity chart to resolve a missing specification.
RFQ Checklist
- Typical and maximum load weight.
- Load dimensions and centre-of-gravity information.
- Required lift height and route geometry.
- Fork, cradle or attachment details.
- Model-specific capacity documentation.
