Palletless logistics is a load-handling approach in which goods move without a conventional wooden or plastic pallet. Depending on the load, the interface may be a slip sheet, a direct clamp, a cradle, a saddle, a core support, or another approved support method. The right equipment depends on the load interface and the route, not on the phrase “palletless” alone.
China Forklift Export uses this page as an application-review resource for international buyers. It helps procurement and operations teams define the load, identify the handling interface, and prepare an RFQ that can be reviewed by an appropriate supplier. It is not a statement that every attachment, truck, or configuration is available through the platform.
When Palletless Handling Requires a Closer Review
A pallet normally provides a known entry point, distributes the load, and gives the truck a defined support surface. Removing it changes the mechanical and operational requirements. The load may need to be pushed, pulled, clamped, supported, or carried on a purpose-built interface. A solution that works for one load family may be unsuitable for another.
Review the application when any of the following apply:
- The load is supplied on a slip sheet or without a pallet.
- The load faces can be damaged by excessive clamp force or uneven contact.
- The load is cylindrical, flexible, fragile, wrapped, or difficult to stabilize.
- The receiving site uses a different support method from the shipping site.
- The route includes ramps, dock plates, thresholds, narrow turns, or mixed pedestrian traffic.
- An attachment changes the load center, visibility, overall width, or effective truck capacity.
Common Load-Interface Options
Slip-sheet and push-pull handling
A push-pull arrangement can be considered when the load is secured to a compatible slip sheet and must be transferred onto or off a platen. The buyer should confirm slip-sheet material, dimensions, tab or lip design, load stability, platen clearance, and the receiving-side process. The attachment model and the base truck must be reviewed as one configuration.
Clamp handling
Clamps may be considered for loads that can be contacted safely on defined faces. The RFQ should identify the load material, face strength, packaging, surface sensitivity, maximum weight, dimensions, and required contact area. Clamp force, pressure relief, jaw travel, visibility, and operating instructions must come from the proposed attachment documentation. They should not be inferred from a generic forklift rating.
Cradles, saddles, and supported loads
A cradle or saddle can provide a defined support for loads that cannot be entered by standard forks. The support drawing should show contact points, clearances, restraint requirements, and how the load is placed and removed. If the support is custom, it should have its own identification, rated limits, and approval record.
| Load interface | What the review should confirm | Evidence needed |
|---|---|---|
| Slip sheet / push-pull | Slip-sheet dimensions, tab or lip, platen clearance, stability, and receiving process | Interface details and proposed attachment documentation |
| Clamp | Contact faces, allowable pressure, jaw travel, visibility, and operating limits | Load material and packaging data plus attachment documentation |
| Cradle / saddle | Contact points, clearances, restraint, loading, and removal method | Dimensioned support drawing and rated limits |
Information Needed Before Equipment Selection
A palletless handling review should begin with a complete load and route description:
- Typical and maximum gross load weight
- Length, width, height, diameter, and centre of gravity where relevant
- Packaging material, contact surfaces, wrapping, and allowable contact areas
- Slip-sheet, cradle, saddle, core, fork, or clamp interface dimensions
- How the load is picked up, moved, placed, and received at the destination
- Narrowest aisle, doorway, turning area, dock, ramp, and clearance
- Floor condition, joints, thresholds, debris, wet areas, and drainage
- Moves per shift, travel distance, operating hours, and charging access
- Destination country and required technical documents
Photos, a dimensioned sketch, packaging details, and a short route video can help a supplier distinguish a standard movement task from an attachment or engineered-support requirement.
How Attachment Capacity Should Be Reviewed
An attachment adds weight ahead of the mast and may move the load centre forward. The usable capacity must therefore be checked for the complete truck, attachment, load centre, lift height, and operating condition. The bare truck nameplate is not enough.
China Forklift Export does not publish a universal derating percentage. The matched supplier should provide the proposed configuration, capacity chart or calculation, attachment identification, load-centre assumptions, and any operating limits in writing. If this evidence is unavailable, the configuration should remain marked Pending supplier verification.
RFQ Checklist for Palletless Cargo
Include the following in an application enquiry:
- Load description, photos, drawings, weight range, and dimensions.
- Packaging and contact-surface information, including damage limitations.
- Required interface: slip sheet, clamp, cradle, saddle, core, or other support.
- Existing truck model and attachment mounting details, if applicable.
- Route measurements, floor conditions, ramps, docks, and turning constraints.
- Duty cycle, operating hours, moves per shift, and charging conditions.
- Destination country and required documentation or inspection records.
- Requested supplier confirmation of capacity, compatibility, and operating limits.
What the Platform Can and Cannot Confirm
The platform can organize a requirement, connect it to listed equipment categories, and request supplier documentation for the proposed configuration. A product or attachment page should not be treated as proof of compatibility with every load. Supplier identity, model code, images, capacity data, certificates, delivery terms, warranty, and availability must be confirmed for the specific quotation.
For a first review, buyers can compare the listed material handling equipment categories and then submit a palletless application enquiry with the load and route information above. Where a supported cylindrical load is involved, the WQ20-Z listed paper-roll pallet truck may be reviewed as a separate product record, subject to its own configuration and application checks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is palletless handling the same as using a forklift attachment?
No. Palletless handling describes the load workflow. A compatible solution may use a push-pull unit, clamp, cradle, saddle, core support, or another interface. The correct choice depends on the load and route.
Can a standard forklift carry a slip-sheet load?
Not automatically. The slip-sheet dimensions, tab or lip, platen, attachment, load centre, and receiving process must be checked for the proposed truck configuration.
Does an attachment reduce forklift capacity?
It can. Attachment weight and forward load-centre movement may reduce usable capacity. Ask the proposed supplier for a configuration-specific capacity confirmation.
What evidence should a buyer request?
Request the attachment model, mounting details, capacity information, load-centre assumptions, operating limits, drawings, manuals, and any applicable supplier certificates or inspection records.
Can China Forklift Export guarantee a palletless configuration?
No universal guarantee is made. The platform can coordinate an application review and request supplier evidence. Availability, compatibility, capacity, documentation, and commercial terms remain subject to supplier verification for the specific requirement.
Request an Application Review
Send the load description, interface details, route measurements, duty cycle, destination country, and required documents. The platform can then route the requirement for a supplier and configuration review. Any item that cannot be verified from supplier documentation will remain clearly identified as pending verification.
Evidence boundary: This page is an application-selection framework. It does not claim a specific attachment, capacity result, cost reduction, efficiency improvement, certification, customer outcome, or universal compatibility.
